Grants & Awards
[Boston & Providence] Ceto Award
The 2023 Ceto Award will provide one writer or artist with the resources to publish and distribute their work through Orbis Editions and Snake Hair Press. The recipient will be awarded with resources valued at $4,000, geared towards the production of a publication. Apply by November 26.
[Boston] Youth Poet Laureate
The City of Boston is looking for its next Youth Poet Laureate. The Youth Poet Laureate will act as an advocate for poetry, language and the arts, and create a unique artistic legacy through public readings and civic events. Apply by November 30 at 11:59pm.
[Boston] Boston Media Arts Empowerment Award
Artists whose studio or residence is based in the city of Boston and who work in music, dance, theater, or poetry/spoken word can apply to win one of 30 awards, each valued at $1,000. Recipients will receive audio/video production support from The Loop Lab, such as a mini-documentary, live performance recording, or marketing video. Apply by December 8, 2023 at 5:00pm.
[Massachusetts] Grants for Creative Individuals
Mass Cultural Council is offering unrestricted, $5,000 grants to artists, culture bearers, and creative practitioners, including visual artists, literary artists, theater artists, performers, film/media artists, music artists, designers, culture bearers/traditional artists, drag artists, and cross-disciplinary artists! Apply by December 11 at 11:59pm.
Residencies & Fellowships
[Provincetown] Fine Arts Work Center Fellowship
The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown is granting 10 fellowships to writers for a seven-month residency that runs from October 1-April 30. Fellows, who are selected through a rigorous jury process, are awarded a $1250 monthly stipend, private accommodations on the grounds of The Fine Arts Work Center, as well as a $1,000 exit stipend to support relocation at the end of the Fellowship. Apply by December 15 at 11:59pm.
Calls for Submissions
[New England] Boston Theater Marathon XXVI
Submissions to the Boston Theater Marathon, an award-winning, all-day marathon of new ten-minute plays, are now open. The 50 selected plays will be produced by 50 New England theater companies on Sunday, May 5, 2024. Submit by November 27 at 11:59pm.
[Virtual] The Maine Review
The Maine Review is a biannual online literary journal that publishes culturally significant and innovative writing by writers living in Maine, across the country, and around the world. Submit by November 30 at 11:59pm.
[Virtual] just femme & dandy
A biannual literary & arts magazine for and by the LGBTQIA+ community on fashion! We cover skincare, DIY, fat fashion, sports, and whatever else comes that to mind when thinking of fashion and style. Submit to the TIME TRAVEL issue by January 15.
Local Events
[Virtual] Planning with Your Whole Self in Your Art Practice w/ John Vo
Wednesdays, November 29, December 6 & 13, 6:00 - 8:00pm, on Zoom
In this intimate, highly interactive series, artist John Vo introduces structures for achieving one’s creative goals without compromising the many additional roles and identities each artist holds. Participants will come away with the components of a personal and creative plan unique to their creative identity. Free and open to Massachusetts artists of all identities and disciplines, and centering multicultural experiences.

Released September 2023 through University of California Press. From the origins of agriculture to contemporary debates over culinary authenticity, Ways of Eating introduces readers to world food history and food anthropology.
[Donna Gordon] What Ben Franklin Would Have Told Me
Released June 2022 through Regal House Publishing. Explores the story of Lee, a vibrant thirteen-year-old boy who is facing premature death; his caretaker Tomás, a survivor of Argentina’s Dirty War, and Lee's single mother, Cass, overwhelmed by love for her son and the demands of her work as a Broadway makeup artist.
